Eneco will manage solar panels for business customers

28-06-2024

Companies with more than 100 solar panels on their roofs can have a significant impact on the balance of the electricity grid, which is essential for the availability of electricity. Therefore, business customers of Eneco who have solar panels and supply electricity back to the grid will henceforth receive the Eneco OpwekOptimaal program as a standard part of their electricity contract. This allows Eneco to manage the use of the solar panels and contribute to the stability of the power grid while customers retain the financial benefits of the solar panels.

Many companies contribute to the energy transition by installing solar panels on their roofs, often allowing them to largely meet their own energy needs. However, solar panel production varies due to changing weather conditions, affecting the balance between supply and demand on the electricity grid. By making Eneco OpwekOptimaal a standard part of the contracts for business customers with more than 100 solar panels, Eneco can regulate electricity production. For this, customers receive a free control box that can remotely dim or switch off the solar panels temporarily.

This promotes both the stability of the electricity grid and the benefits for the customer. Business customers retain the financial benefits of their solar panels and are fully compensated for the electricity they could not generate. Additionally, they receive an extra compensation of up to €0.01 per kWh for all electricity supplied back to the grid. This way, customers can optimize the financial benefits of their solar panels while Eneco ensures a more stable electricity grid.

Dick Velings, Director of Business at Eneco, says: “Eneco is committed to accelerating the energy transition, but we also need to manage the sustainable energy that enters the grid smartly. With smart control technology, we are getting better at this. By including Eneco OpwekOptimaal as a standard in business electricity contracts, we can accelerate the energy transition while also contributing to a stable electricity grid. This is a logical step forward for us.”
